The Ulokeros was studied by Greek professor I.N.Dimitriadis and published in 1941. It is the only Greek goat that received such attention. Dimitriadis's work was practically lost and only re-discovered recently with the help of Save Monitoring Institute in a Zurich library. It is written in German, though the original Greek text has yet to be located in Greece itself. At the time it was only bred pure by members of Toulitsis family in Loukissia. The Ulokeros gene existed also at varying percentages in mixed herds in Lorkis region (Viotia/Fthiotis). It diminished as one moved west. Toulitsis family have ceased breeding the goats for several decades. Today only relics exist in a few mixed herds. It is with those that we are trying to establish breeding groups. This is done with the help of Save Foundation and by privately funded groups by local friends and partners.

Well done! This is one of the excellent examples of monitoring the situation, combined with appropriate search tours, building up new nucleus groups and starting a breeding scheme. These goats look phantastic and are worth to be kept for the future! Best wishes for further success.

Thanks very much Hape. We couldn't have done it without your help!
